Pride Arcana

Collection of 5, digital charcoal illustrations, 2026

I created this collection of pride inspired tarot cards for Pride month — June 2026.

I was accepted to my first city-local market, that happens to be for Pride! I wanted to have something special at my booth for the LGBTQIA+ community, but this project (as many projects do) grew much, much, bigger as I worked on it.

I spun through many ideas, until I landed on tarot cards, got so excited, and immediately began by making a list of cards:

0. The Fool -
New Beginnings, Freedom, Unlimited Possibilities

VI. The Lovers -
Choice, Union, Duality

XXI. The World -
Wholeness, Completion, Inner Balance

vi. The Lovers.

I knew I wanted the angel behind each the lovers, blessing the union as the original tarot symbolism reads.

My goal was to represent not only LGBTQIA+ relationships in this traditional way, but to also represent different aspects within relationships widely.

I limited myself to three cards, with three ideas:

Gravity, Anchor, and Balance.

How do I portray mere ideas/feelings in my art…?

The figure.

And the help of others’ art— Dance.

Thank you to all dancers, your art makes all art better. (secret: it’s a big circle!!)

Anchor

grounding, devotion, and the quiet strength of choosing one another again and again.

Gravity

movement, trust, and the impossible feeling of being pulled toward someone across any distance.

Balance

harmony, reflection, and the delicate act of moving through life beside one another.

0. The Fool.

I was so excited to start on this card! Not only to finally add some color after limiting my palette for The Lovers, but also:

This is the card that I had no questions on.

I knew I wanted to draw a drag queen. Knew I wanted to keep the rose. Knew I wanted the cliffs.
(i did want the furry friend but… lets count her feather bustle instead.)

This is the only card in this series I did in one sitting.
And I adore her.

Let’s remember the traditional symbolism for The Fool:

New beginnings, existing outside boundaries, creativity, bravery, leaps of faith.

The drag queen.

and here she is, rose in hand, stepping bravely off the cliff with her eyes closed. (serving face while she does.)

xxi. The World.

XXI: The World.
This card is my personal favorite, and is a love letter to trans and non binary communities.

It specifically felt so mythic, and spiritual as I was drawing. It’s an honor to try and represent queer bodies in this way.

Wholeness, completion, inner balance, successful end of a journey.

My ideas for this drawing were a lot more complex than I ended up doing. I wanted to include more of the traditional symbolism— The drape, the candles, and even the elements were faint shapes on the beginning of my canvas.

But I finished the figure, the wreath, the blue. and it felt whole, and complete.

(who am I to argue with a world card about being complete?)

Because of this, the card came out in a way that feels… delicate, subtle and sacred. perfect ❤︎

The halo is not traditional, but it’s right.
